In the spring of 2021, BCP Council (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole) installed 27 Christie barbecues through their UK partners, All Urban, as part of a major beachfront regeneration project. The goal is to attract more visitors, reduce waste, and create safer, more welcoming public spaces.
Christie has been designing and manufacturing public barbecues for 60 years. Their energy-efficient electric cooktops are built for urban outdoor use. They are durable, safe, and easy for everyone to enjoy. The vision, set by founder David "Sandy" Christie, was always simple: bring people together outdoors.
That vision is now being realised in the UK. By switching to council-run communal cooktops, the BCP Council has reduced the use of single-use barbecue trays, which often pose safety, litter, and environmental hazards. Better still, the barbecues are free to use, making social gatherings more inclusive.
"We all know the health benefits of being outside. Our barbecues make it easy for people to come together in a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable way. BCP Council is leading the way in bringing this great Australian tradition to the UK.
- Paul Conradie, Christie's Head of Sales
The Christie CC2 electric cooktop delivers the responsiveness of gas cooking without high power use. Its onboard controller manages energy in real time, ensuring efficiency and minimising waste.
Christie barbecues can now be found in prime locations throughout the UK and Ireland, including Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities, Burgess Park in London, Herbert Park in Dublin, and West Byfleet Retirement Village in Surrey.
By activating social spaces, supporting community connection, and reducing waste, Christie Barbecues are redefining what it means to gather outdoors to cook and connect in the UK.
