At Bimstore, we talk a lot about how digital models influence the real world. This refurbishment gave us the chance to flip that narrative, using our space as a live example of how good design and carefully chosen products contribute to a workspace that is both practical and enjoyable to use. It's a reminder that digital tools and physical spaces are deeply connected and that the choices we make when specifying products shape how a space feels and functions.
The project, delivered in collaboration with interior designer Karen Walker and Space Architects, has rethought every corner of the space to prioritise comfort, flexibility, and effective ways of working. We wanted an office that can host design sprints one day and quiet deep-focus work the next, and that also showcases how products available on Bimstore can shape a quality interior fit-out.
We're always keen to see how manufacturers' products perform in the real world. It felt natural to use the refurbishment as an opportunity to specify products that are available on Bimstore, testing them in a live setting while demonstrating their value. Take the taps in our kitchen, for example. We chose GROHE, a manufacturer available on Bimstore, for their reliability and clean lines that complement the kitchen's restrained palette. GROHE's products are already trusted across the industry, and in our office, they've proven practical for daily use, easy to clean and maintain, and look good in a busy shared kitchen.
We also specified flooring and surface materials from manufacturers on Bimstore, including Forbo and Formica. The kitchen table features a durable Formica laminate top in storm grey, while Forbo's furniture linoleum was selected for the movable seating tops, offering a tactile and resilient surface that withstands daily use.
The design intent was to create distinct zones throughout the office to accommodate a range of working styles. Fixed desks sit alongside movable benches and stepped seating, allowing us to adapt layouts for team meetings or workshops. Modular shelving and display units add storage without cluttering the space, providing a spot to showcase samples and prototypes while keeping the floors clear and unobstructed.
Materials were chosen for durability and acoustic comfort. AllSfär's "Öra Plain" acoustic wall panels, available in a sand yellow tone, manage sound across open-plan areas while adding a warm splash of colour. Vescom's "Capri" acoustic sheers filter daylight and soften spaces without closing them off, while Troldtekt acoustic panels installed in the ceilings help to keep the workspace calm, even on busy days.
Carpet tiles from Interface (Open Air 402 collection) and LVT flooring (Walk on By, Look Both Ways collection) bring practicality and a clean aesthetic to the floors, complemented by Nora rubber safety flooring, which adds durability in high-traffic zones while helping to reduce footfall noise.
Furniture choices prioritise comfort and longevity. Orangebox Recur task chairs, upholstered in Camira Xtreme fabric, and lounge chairs in Camira Synergy provide quality, comfortable seating throughout the workspace. Bench workstations and height-adjustable desks from Workwell provide team members with control over their working setup. At the same time, Orangebox "Cubb" high project tables paired with ØRN "Loria" stools support collaborative sessions.
The kitchen's large worktable and the modular box seating crafted by joinery specialists add social functionality, while a set of Bene "PIXEL" modular boxes can be rearranged as stools, benches, or low tables to suit the task at hand.
Lighting choices include AllSfär's "Pop 500" acoustic pendant lights, which help manage noise while adding character above meeting areas. Linear "Infinitas Micro" LED systems from Hacel Lighting and adjustable LED track lighting provide functional, bright lighting throughout, supporting a productive working environment.
Sustainability is at the heart of Bimstore. Choosing a refurbishment over a full fit-out reduced waste and embodied carbon while allowing us to reuse and refresh materials, surfaces, and furniture already in place. Existing perimeter worktops were retained, storage units were repurposed, and seating was reupholstered to align with the new design. These choices allowed us to create a workspace that feels new while respecting the resources we already had.
This refurbishment has given us a space that supports the way we work while reflecting the values we hold as a business. It is a place that demonstrates the quality and practicality of the products we advocate for every day. We look forward to welcoming clients, collaborators, and manufacturers into our Newcastle HQ to see firsthand how these products come together to shape a workspace that supports innovation and wellbeing.
