Metsä Wood play key role in Norweigan 'green village'

Norwegian construction company Arca Nova Bolig are setting out to “change the housing market in the same way Tesla changed the car industry,” with some help from bimstore manufacturer Metsä Wood.

Verksbyen, a neighbourhood in the city of Fredrikstad, is being called “Norway’s most innovative housing project.”

Arca Nova Bolig will build 5 five-story apartment buildings in the neighbourhood and house 5000 people over the next 10 years.

Using Kerto® LVL products, we reduce both building time and CO2 emissions quite substantially.

Both electricity and heating in the buildings will be produced by solar energy and the use of Metsä Wood’s LVL Q-panels and S-beams will help to reduce CO2 emissions by 50%.

“Constructing with prefabricated elements using Kerto® LVL products, we reduce both building time and CO2 emissions quite substantially compared to the traditional way of building with steel and concrete," said Arca Nova Bolig CEO, Ruben D. Hansen.

"Also, the dimensional accuracy of Kerto LVL is a benefit, as the materials do not shrink during construction."

The ‘green village’ is set to be completed rapidly. The use of prefabricated elements speeds up the building process to the extent that one floor can be completed per week, meaning that a building can be completed in just five weeks.

The first building is expected to be completed by the end of the year and the entire project will be completed by the end of 2020.
