Life-sized LEGO typewriter set to be reviewed by toy manufacturers

A designer has submitted plans to LEGO for a new product – a life-size typewriter.

Designer Steve Guiness said: ‘I originally developed the idea whilst I was on the Legomasters TV show in the UK.

“Since then I have continued to refine the design, making a hand-cranked mechanism instead of a power functions motor that I had originally fitted.”

Guinness uploaded his design for the product to LEGO Ideas, a website which allows users to submit their own ideas for future Lego products. Over 10,000 people have already registered their support for the idea which means that it has enough support to be reviewed by Lego in 2020.

I think it showcases the versatility of the LEGO brick, and would look amazing on any LEGO fans desk, at home or even in the office at work.

If the idea passes Lego’s review, the development stage will begin. This will involve Lego’s designers refining the product so that it will be ready for release and producing all the product materials (e.g: box, marketing materials, instructions.)

The design for the typewriter includes a working hand-crank mechanism and a full QWERTY keytop.

“I have also had the keys printed up with letters. I believe this would make a fun and unique LEGO ideas project,” said Guinness.

“I think it showcases the versatility of the LEGO brick, and would look amazing on any LEGO fans desk, at home or even in the office at work.”
