Czech Republic's tallest tower will feature a shipwreck

A new project in the Czech Republic will feature a shipwreck within a high-rise building.

The provocative 135-metre-high construction is intended to serve as a reminder of the dangers of climate change, specifically pointing to storms and rising sea levels.

It will not be visible from the vast majority of places in the centre of the metropolis and will not disturb the historical city skyline.

The building, which will be known as the Top Tower and based around the Prague area, was commissioned by developers Trigema and designed by Black n’ Arch alongside designer David Černý.

“The project under preparation will be outside the protected zone of the urban conservation area and outside the area prohibiting high-rise buildings," explained Trigema.

"At the same time, it is located far enough away from Prague, so that it will not be visible from the vast majority of places in the centre of the metropolis and will not disturb the historical city skyline."

Construction will begin in 2021 with the building expected to be completed within three years.

The building will serve multiple purposes, as it will contain around 250 small apartments available to rent, alongside offices and a cultural centre.
