RTC North America 2016 Recap

bimstore joined our US partner in sunny Arizona for 3 days of learning & networking

Last month bimstore headed across the water to join our bimstore.us partner, Read Thomas, at this year’s RTC North America event, which was being held at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Let’s just go back a step and correct that statment – the conference was actually being held in a VERY VERY hot Scottsdale, Arizona. Yes, while we were basking over here in the warmth of the glorious British summer, where our days were regularly hitting the dizzy heights of 20 degrees celsius, delegates to RTC North America were welcomed by a ever-so-slightly warmer 50 degrees celsius, which is pretty insane! You know, it's often said that there’s nothing worse than being stuck inside a conference on a beautiful summers day - however the exception to this rule must be other than when the mercury is hitting the mid-40s! All hail the invention of air-conditioning!

The RTC conferences are fantastic events which give attendees the golden opportunity to learn from some of the world’s top instructors and industry experts, explore the latest trends and technologies, share best practice and tips and tricks and most importantly, leave the conference with a wealth of knowledge, practical methods and new ideas. It’s also a great chance to network and share ideas and insights with an international community of industry peers and they open their doors to a host of industry professionals from across the globe, including architects, engineers, students, BIM managers and academics.

All the comments that we’ve seen online post-event have been overwhelmingly positive, we’ve heard it said on several occasions that it was the best RTC conference people had been to. It was apparently also the best-attended so far with over 600 delegates from 11 countries turning up to join in the learning and networking fun!

We asked Sean about his experience on his return and here’s what he had to say:

"So bimstore decided to visit the sunny deserts of Arizona to help our bimstore.us partner, Read Thomas, promote manufacturer-specific content creation to the United States of America! Being someone that is used to 2-3 hour flights at most, the 15-hour travel plans were a bit daunting, but it was definitely worth it. Not only did I get to enjoy the 45-degree weather for the 5 days that I was there, but it was also a great event to get to know new people, and make relationships with the bimstore.us team. As I turned up on the first evening, I noticed that the allocated space for bimstore was already crammed full with Arcade games and pinball machines, AWESOME!!

Over the 3-day event, I attempted to persuade as many of the American community as I could, that having access to manufacturer specific content was much better than generic content when it comes to BIM. It seemed to be a hard message to get across, but there was quite a bit of attention raised when we offered free content creation and hosting to specifiers for the first 50 that signed up! We are hoping that in the coming weeks when we get in touch with the specifiers, we can ask them to pick a piece of manufacturer content that they would like created and hosted, and we will carry this out free of charge! bimstore sure know how to treat their specifiers!"

We really enjoyed being part of this event for the second year running and we are super-excited about heading out to Portugal in October for RTC Europe and the first RTC European Building Content Summit.

The details for the 2017 have already been announced so you can get it in your schedule now – RTC North America will be held from 3-5th August 2017 in Toronto, Canada at the Westin Harbour Castle, which we have to say looks like a pretty sweet location!
