Brexit Bunker designed for London garden

A London design studio has constructed a ‘Brexit bunker’ in the garden of a local house.

The ‘Brexit Bunker’ has been described as a ‘sanctuary from the UK's Brexit-dominated political climate, ‘as well as being a small studio to work or relax in.

Rise Design Studio were founded in 2011 and have worked on a range of projects including the renovation of a flat inside a 19th century mansion block.

The bunker was made using hot-rolled steel which was left to naturally rust and then used to cover the entire exterior of the garden room.

It is a place of sanctuary

The bunker also features a pyramid-style roof with an oriel window.

"The garden studio sits, or rather nests, at the rear of a small garden connected by a patio clad in clay pavers, a contemporary addition that is still reminiscent of the reclaimed bricks used for the garden walls," said the studio.

A window box provides seating which looks over the garden, with fences facing a railway track at the back of the garden.

"One can relax surrounded by the sounds of birds without any visual hint that they are in the city instead of the country; it is a place of sanctuary," said the studio.

Plywood is used to line the bunker’s ceilings and walls while providing a contrast against its rough exterior.

A highly insulated roof and walls ensure that the bunker is both thermally and acoustically protected.
